Resume Tips:
Think of your resume
as an advertisement or a commercial enticing
a hiring manager to learn more about you. It
is your first opportunity to make an impression.
Just like in an interview, appearance is important.
With the numerous formats and styles of resumes
you can use, it can be quite overwhelming. In
addition resume advice often follows trends.
The do's and don'ts of resume writing you learned
in school very well have changed. Therefore,
our suggestion to you is to counsel with your
recruiter and research a current book.
However, there are some
basic characteristics to follow that make up
any well-done resume:

Be concise. No paragraphs longer than 6-7 lines
should be included. Take out unnecessary details.

Use proper grammar and spelling! Seems
obvious? However, many do neglect to give emphasis
to this element. This is a testimony to the
hiring manager of your communication and organizational
skills.

Use a variety of action verbs.

Avoid using the passive voice and 3rd person.
( ex. Was responsible for achieving vs. Achieved)

Avoid including personal information such as
marital status, height, and weight.

Make the resume easy to read. Stay away from
small margins and small font.

Stay away from elaborate wording and fonts.
The purpose of a resume is not to cram
in as much information as possible hoping that
you might hit on something that appeals to a
hiring manager. It is your first opportunity
to highlight your experience and skills.
Display your accomplishments. Describe skills
and achievements that can be measured objectively
(ex. percentage above quota, Presidents Club,
etc.).
When time allows it is best to tailor you resume
to the specific position you are applying for.
Cut out what is not applicable and emphasize
the skills that are directly related to the
particular position. This allows a way to cut
out frivolous details that can keep a hiring
manager from reviewing a resume.
Especially being in the IT industry it is essential
that you have access to your resume electronically.
We would prefer you to send us your resume via
email as a Microsoft Word attachment. If you
have more questions about this contact us and
we will get you started. After emailing a resume
it is helpful to follow up with an email or
phone call a few days after ensuring the resume
did arrive successful.
