Ingredients For A Successful Interview

Sample Questions to be Prepared to Answer:

How does your background make you a good candidate for this position? Give evidence to the employer that you are prepared for the interview and fit with the company.

Tell me the top three things that motivate you, as an employee, to do a good job.

What thing do you look for in an employer or manager?

What shortcomings would you need to improve upon to be successful in this position? (Don't give "pat" answers here.)

Why did you leave your last position?/Why are you leaving your current position?/Why are you looking for a new opportunity? Make sure you stay consistent and honest with your answers because any discrepancies will most likely show up here.

What are your long-term goals and how do you plan on achieving such goals?

Tell me about your past successes or accomplishments. What are they? What was your role? Be specific. Give tangible experience that can benefit the company (i.e. quality improvement, cost reduction, quota achievements).

What is your management style?

Tell me about your personality and favorite leisure activities.

Describe if your style is autocratic or democratic, how you can work with others on team, your work ethic and the balance you have in your life.

Why do you want to work for our company? Show your knowledge of the company and your preparation for the interview.

What can (could) your employer do (have done) differently to keep you? Describe your commitment to make and adapt to changes.

What would you change (have changed) in your work situation at your present (last) employer? Give examples of your creativity and innovation.

Who do you work well with and why? Describe you personality traits. Give a glimpse of who you are.

How did you go about solving problems at work? Specifically, what kind of support did you ask for and what kind of help did you get? Give examples of your initiative, how you delegate responsibilities. Present your ability to troubleshoot or work under pressure.

If I were to call your present (last) employer, what would they say about you and why?

Most importantly, be prepared to answer the following question thoughtfully and consistently: "Why do you want this job?" Include in your answer what contributions you can bring to the company.
